AY – With Love

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

AY is AJ’s sister. They look almost alike. This is part of AJ project too as it was held in the same day with AJ.

AY has been part-time model before. So to place her in style was easy without any hesitation. Here’s some of the shots which took in Penang with my baby D3 and Nikon 80-200 F2.8 (with tripodcollar version).

Enjoy the show!

These shots were taken without any speedlite and ISO atleast 1600 above. I like light and depth. So this is how i’m going to implement it.

AJ – Sweet Sixteen

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

It is my first time to have shooting with AJ. AJ just a student in KTAR Penang and she doest not have any experience in modelling so we have to guide her up. Kinda tough, but we enjoyed.

Anyhow, I would like to say a million thanks to Mr Jase Lee for guiding me through patiently about setting up the slide viewer with WP. Owe you a cup of coffee bro!

Here’s some shots with AJ. Stay Tune.

Petronas BASF Photo Competition Award 2008

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

During early of 2008, I read in the newspaper that Petronas is having a photo competition worth RM5000 for the first prize. Without any hesitation, I’ve joined.

The title was about care for environment. Kinda hard to think what to shoot for that title. Everything has to have connection with the environmental elements.

At that particular time , my brain was empty. So, I plan to walk around in the remote area of Penang Island. As I approached one of the villages, I met several children were playing around a tree and I’ve invited them for a shoot in exchange with some candy bars.

After summited the photo, I wasn’t expect that I could win the prize from it as you can see, there’s more than 9000 shots around Malaysia and you could just figure out how many photographers had summited their copies. There’s alot professionals in Malaysia too. I’m just a newbie how to compete with others which has skills more than 20 years.

At first, I was planning to give up. But with some encouragement from my family, my wife and friends, I continue to compete.

One early morning, My wife received a call from Petronas and congratulating me for that I had won for the contest. We were stunned and happy. At that time, Petronas did not inform us what prize we are gaining but the person in charge told us that we wont regret getting down from Penang to KL for nothing.

So we both give it a try. We went for the prize giving day on 1st of November 2008

After arriving at Sunway Pyramid (where the prize giving stage), before doing other stuff, We circulated the hall of fame. More than 100 of entries shots were staged at the arena. In surprise, I saw my winning shots duplicated into 2 copies in a special corner which accompany by 4 shots of other photographers from different state. The rest only has 1 shots each. So it might be a sign that I might be in the final round with the top 5 winners.

So, I’ve patiently waited for the result.

Soon after the release, I got 3rd prize among all 1000 of photographers in Malaysia. What a relieve. Got a certificate and cash RM1500 from BASF. Thank You Petronas for giving faith in me and appreciate my art. I love you Petronas (will encourage my family to pump more petrol)

My Winning Shot :-

Best part of all, the BASF Germany manager were interested in my picture as what i’ve heard he mentioned this picture captured with artistic level and nice. Different from others. That’s my first minute of fame too. Of course he do not know who’s the photog behind it.

After that, my wife explained to him how it were done and do all those talkings. I’m just standing there dreaming all the way…

My wife represented me for the award giving (sometimes you can’t believe the existence of lady-luck)

Jaja… Here’s the showoff time out :-

My first HDR Tryout

Friday, February 20th, 2009

John requested me to fill his car with a new atmosphere and taste. He wanted to put it up in his friendster to show off. I’m glad someone did let me have his vehicle for a try out.

I plan to make his car into commercial outlook. So I put up 6 images with different exposures individually and try using Photomatix pro (you can purchase it online) to setup a HDR image. So here’s how it would be..

This was capture with my beloved Tokina AT-X 10-17 Fisheye. Fisheye angle is hard to capture but if you have determination, everything is possible.

Neng and Sim Pre-Wedding Session

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

During the winter of November 2008, Neng (my buddy) came to me with a good news that he’s going to marry Sim (his going-to-be-bride). Halehlujah! End of barchelor day!

He approached me and request me and my partner tcsehu for being his official photographers on his big day.

Without have it think twice, I’ve agreed and we made it at G-Hotel, Penang for most of the shots. I personally prefer outdoor shooting rather in studio as to me, when i’m at outdoor, I love to have wind breezes through my hair. Feeling more freedom like a bird and beyond any boundaries.

After the engagement session, followed up with outdoor and indoor shooting in the hotel.

V-Day with my dearest

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I would like to start my blogging with V-Day session with my wife, Jennifer. She’s been loving and care about me since the day we’ve been together. It’s time for me to do something for her.

At times, when we are down, a companion cheers you up. When you are alone or celebrating birthday alone, out of sudden someone rings you up to greets you with lovely tone and sometimes you will receive surprises from your companion.

Even though this might look a simple gratitude, but with my effort will shows how appreciative I am for your tender care and our relationship. Sometimes small stuff will make big difference.

All I want to say is .. Dear I Love You! You are my everything (this is honest from my heart) How I wish you read my blog now.

Not every light has the right light for portraiture. This shot was taken with ISO 2000 and of course open large apeature will give a little help in it. No flash are implemented in this shot. Instead of getting the video light for additional source, the candle light would do a little trick for it.

Try get the background in abit colour tone. You may get some additional flavor added to your meal.

Ok fine. This is me having candle light dinner with some nasty face mood. At times when your model giving out a little expression may improve your shooting.
